Or you may discover your new favorite annual event to check out.

Independence Day at the Mansion

Annual July 4th Celebration

It’s one thing to read your history, and another to see it in person. Each year, Independence Day at the Mansion brings our nation’s independence to life. Visitors can listen to the Declaration of Independence, getting read by a historical actor. Best of all, both parking and participation stay free, so bring the family.

When possible, tours also get offered of the John Harris-Simon Cameron Mansion. And there are often food and beverage sales as well as children’s’ activities. The final reading gets performed at noon, leaving ample time for fireworks. Add some education to your Independence Day festivities and attend this annual tradition.

Fascinator Fascination Workshop

Late August Crafting Experience

It simply doesn’t feel like the Kentucky Derby until the hats grow bigger. At the Fascinator Fascination Workshop, attendees craft their own headwear for the festive occasion. In the 18th century, it was increasingly common to see women’s hats with scarves. Over time, however, these additions became more and more outrageous until they evolved completely.

Even today, you can see lots of royal family members sporting bizarre and eye-catching fascinators. And for only $75, you can create your own with the local historical society.

This annual workshop includes both instruction and materials for DIY fashion pieces. Once completed, you’re ready to attend your own Kentucky Derby gathering with a fun accessory.

Fort Hunter Day

September 20th | Pennsylvania’s Official Start of Fall

Fort Hunter is a historic mansion built on a bluff along the Susquehanna River. And each year, Fort Hunter Day offers family-friendly activities geared towards education. Admission to the festivities is free but will require tickets to enter. Vendors onsite offer food and beverages for sale, as well as for crafting supplies.

During the day, visitors will get to enjoy live music and entertainment. Equal parts craft fair and informative colonial-era celebration, there’s plenty to experience. This is an ideal event to explore alone or with a group. Aside from grabbing lunch, it makes for an affordable family outing as well.

Annual BrewFest

Mid-Summer July Celebration

While everyone is particular about their preferred beverages, it never hurts to explore new choices. Each year at the annual BrewFest, attendees see dozens of options in beer. Not only can you sip over 60 brews, but try many food trucks as well. Which you will need to after trying out a variety of different adult beverages.

It isn’t all about drinking, though, and you have lots of entertainment to enjoy. Ask some local brewers your burning questions or nod along to live musical performances. Although not necessarily a family-forward event, the admission stays discounted for designated drivers. Bring along your favorite driver to head home after sampling all 60 different beers available.

Cultural Fest

Early August Summer Gathering

Those unfamiliar with our community may not realize how diverse it stays. It isn’t until they attend the annual Cultural Fest that they see how much. Presented by the local Multicultural Taskforce, this annual celebration is a fun time for all. Whether you are performing or observing, everyone walks away with open eyes and hearts.

This free event invites area schools, artists, and other groups from a range of backgrounds. Watch Irish Dancers, Haitian belly dancers, and eastern cultural organizations as well. Children can find plenty of fun and games or watch and listen to the many performances. Travel the world without leaving town, and reconnect with your friends and neighbors.
